Devil’s claw (also known as “herbal bute”) is an extract derived from a native African plant, and has been used to treat osteo and rheumatoid arthritis in humans, horses and dogs. It has powerful anti-inflammatory benefits, the active component in Devil’s Claw is harpagophytum, which not only has pain relieving benefit, but is an appetite stimulant and will increase gastric secretions which could benefit horses with poor appetite and body condition, however its not recommended for a horse being treated for gastric, hind gut ulcers or pregnant mares. <p>

Yucca is another popular herbal anti-inflammatory which has been used for many years by Native Americans. Along with the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits from the Yucca, Yucca can also improve gut health, reducing the impact of harmful microbes. The active ingredient in Yucca is the plant sterol, Saponin which not only reduces inflammation and pain but also is a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants protect and maintain cell membranes from free radical reactions and oxidative stress that can result from everyday cell metabolism, injuries, joint disease and extreme work and exercise. Yucca also has antimicrobial and antifungal benefits improving colon health and therefore improves digestion and absorption of nutrients from the GI tract. <p>
